Injuries of the Knee

The knee is the most common joint in the body to suffer injury. Many of these injuries are caused by overuse of muscles and ligaments, they are also common in sports individuals.

The ends of these bones are covered with smooth white tissue called articular cartilage. This slippery surface helps your knee bones glide smoothly as you bend or straighten your leg.

The menisci are located between the tibia and femur. These C-shaped wedges act as "shock absorbers" and stabilize and cushion the joint.

Common sports and age related degradation injuries in the knee are:

  • Meniscal Tears
  • Cartilage Damage
  • Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tears
  • Osteoarthritis
  • These knee injuries and conditions may require surgical intervention.
